Entry 295: PAKLIS #1

I'm finally entering into the world of creator-owned-comics. This MAY you'll be able to get the first issue of PAKLIS. Here's the description:
Do you accept the life you've been handed, or do you step into the unknown, even as it leads you into the shadows?

Image Comics is pleased to introduce PAKLIS—a new anthology series from writer/artist Dustin Weaver—where the characters in three mind-bending stories find themselves faced with dark, existential questions that will haunt readers.
"My influences on this series range from Kafka to Miyazaki. The Twilight Zone, Aeon Flux cartoons, and the comics of Moebius and Otomo are all major touchstones," said Weaver.
In “MUSHROOM BODIES,” Greg struggles with knowing what’s real and fears becoming complacent in a world of human insects.
In the first installment of “SAGITTARIUS A*,” war hero Linus Rad is on a mission to the center of the galaxy to learn the dark secrets of his dead father’s scientific experiments.
In the first chapter of “AMNIA CYCLE,” Tara, a young Jet-Wing pilot, goes AWOL in the war against the Nuriel in order to help Amnia, a mysterious alien with no memory of where she came from and a desperate need to stop a terrible disaster! When Amnia disappears, it sends Tara on an adventure into the Shadow Zone.
Step into the unknown. Journey into the shadows. There you’ll find PAKLIS.
PAKLIS #1 (Diamond Code MAR170691) hits stores on Wednesday, May 31st. The final order cutoff deadline for comics retailers is Monday, May 8th.

Entry 294: Blast From the Past - Part 25

This is the short King Kong entry before the long King Kong entry. The simple and pleasant entry before the frustrating mess entry. The calm entry before the storm entry.

Entry 293: ECCC 2017 Commissions

Last time I had a table at a convention was in 2013. At that time I decided that I wasn't going to do another convention until I had a book of my own to promote. And with my creator owned series, PAKLIS, coming out this May, I finally have reason to get back on the comic convention train. So this year I went up to my favorite con, Emerald City ComicCon in Seattle, and of course I did some commissions. There's one just up above, and here are some more.

Entry 291: Revisiting Kingbreaker

For fun I started messing with the colors on some of these old X-Men Kingbreaker pages. Kingbreaker was a four issue series I did back in 2009 and it was my first work with Marvel. I was never satisfied with how it came out. I've always felt the art could have been better served with a different approach to the colors. To test that theory I messed with some pages to try to get the results that I would have liked. I did these quickly and I was working from already colored jpegs, so these don't fully represent how I would color them if I was working from the originals, but they're pretty close.

(For the record, I think the colorist could have been under tight deadlines with this series and couldn't do more detailed work even if they had wanted to. Changing the colors as I have isn't a criticism.)

Entry 290: Venom Rider & Teenage Mutant Ninja BATMAN?

Dustin's Blog: Stardate 123456789 10 11 12...13       14

I've been watching a lot of Star Trek Next Generation lately. I'm having a great time. It's a great show!

Okay bye.

Dustin's Blog Supplemental:

I’ve spent most of the past year working on my upcoming creator-owned comic series, Paklis, which has been great. It's so creatively fulfilling, but I'm making no money. I won’t be making any money off Paklis until it’s published. To stay focused, I’ve been turning down all work-for-hire. So, I’ve basically just been living off savings, which is okay I guess. I did save it for this purpose. But it is stressful to watch funds dwindle as I work on a project that a big part of me fears people wont even like.

Anyway, immediately following the election, I guess the future just seem too uncertain and I had a moment of weakness and I excepted 2 paying cover jobs. So here those covers are!

Entry 289: Blast From The Past - Part 24

I was just thinking: I've never had to suffer trolls on the internet. I've never been harassed by haters... One time some people got in a stupid argument in my comments and it made me so happy that I had to say that I appreciated it and encouraged them. I think I spoiled the mood because that put a stop to it.

Anyway, that really has nothing to do with anything. Welcome to my blog. Today I thought I'd take another walk down memory lane and visit... with the memories.... Won't you join me?

After that beginning, I'd understand you not reading any further, but if you stop reading now you'll miss out on all the sci-fi/western drawings I've dug out of the ol' Art Vault for this new Blast From The Past entry!

So now, I take you, like the Ghost of Christmas Past back, but stupidly, not to your past, but to mine!!!!!!
